Landscape and Irrigation Engineer

Job purpose: 

You will be responsible for all aspects of decorative, agricultural, general gardening including indoor plants as well all the irrigation network and watering sources. 

What do we expect from you?  

             Key duties 

  • Prepare the annual plans and budget including: hiring plan, tools, equipment, materials, uniforms, gardening and planting supplies and discuss it with the Maintenance manager 

  • Track the budget and ensure no deviation takes place 

  • Plan and execute all landscaping operations and setting the process and guidelines 

  • Set the department KPIs in alignment with the Maintenance Manager 

  • Provide routine care of lawns, trees, shrubs, walks, parking areas, and fence lines, bedding plants, indoor decorative plants…etc  

  • Prepare schedules for cutting, fertilizing, liming, seeding, and applying herbicides, pruning, etc 

  • Observe and report any signs of abnormal development in lawns, shrubs, trees, etc., and share improvements as needed to the manager to take the required action 

  • Plan to build or modify relevant landscape paths, structures or other features 

  • Ensure irrigation network is functioning properly and as per the set watering schedules  

  • Ensure regular check on the irrigation systems and that a preventive maintenance plan is in place 

  • Work closely with the procurement to ensure availing all needed resources to the team while ensuring optimized usage of these resources 

  • Keep track of inventory of all the department supplies  

  • Set the team work schedule and leaves plan efficiently while ensuring no disruption in the working plan and ensuring the team take their rest to avoid fatigue or health issues 

  • Providing training and support to staff on correct agricultural techniques and practices to meet requirements of specified tasks  

  • Locate and plant shrubs, trees, and flowers recommended for particular landscape effect 

  • Supervise the cleaning process and ensure following the set guidelines and standards 

  • Supervise the care and maintenance of indoor plants 

  • Pest control: Communicate with pest control contractors to: 

  • Set the annual calendar for visits and pest control programs and ensure the timely adherence to this plan in accordance to the agreed upon standards and terms stated in the contract 

  • Request their support for any ad-hoc or unplanned needs that might arise 

  • Perform the daily administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork  

 Health and Safety: 

  • Enforce the strict implementation and adherence to KODE Health, Safety and Environment standards and instructions at all times to maintain a safe environment to the staff and members 

  • Work closely with the Health & Safety Department getting the most efficient means of safety and the lowest level of Property and Human Risk factors 

  • Ensure departmental staff has a safe environment to properly work with, handle and store equipment, tools and chemicals 

  • Report any Health & Safety related matters to the HSE departments 

People Management: 

  • Lead by example in owning and living KODE values and culture 

  • Provide continuous coaching and on job training to own team to make sure they are doing their tasks as per the set standards  

  • Train the team on the proper use of the equipment and materials  

  • Ensure the team are delivering on their KPIs  

  • Monitor and follow up on the team’s performance and conduct the daily “Briefing Meeting” to assign duties, tasks or any special events as applicable 

  • Ensure the team are adhering to the set policies  

  • Ensure the team commit to the grooming and  hygiene  instructions and wearing their designated uniform and PPEs at all times 

 

Reporting: 

  • Prepare the daily log book 

  • Provide the manager with the monthly schedules, attendance and leaves reports 

  • Incidents report 

  • Resources consumption report  

 

Continuous improvement: 

  • Participate in the department discussions of possible improvements and comes up with initiatives to improve the efficiency 

  • Constantly work on innovative /decorative ideas to enhance the look of the club and the members’ experience and especially during seasons and occasions 

  • Stay up to date with the new agricultural and landscaping practices and trends. 

 

What do you need to perform your role? 

To perform your job successfully, you need to have the following minimum requirements: 

  • Education and experience: 

  • BSc of Agriculture. 

  • 7+ years experience preferably in landscaping companies /hotels or resorts

  • Skills and knowledge:

  • High supervisor and management skills 

  • Speaking, Reading, and Writing knowledge of the English Language  

  • Working knowledge of MS Office 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

  • High organizational skills 

  • Artistic and decorative sense (high spacial reasoning) 

  • Up to date knowledge of agricultural practices and techniques
